CustomConfig and DefaultConfig files

This article will detail how to create a CustomConfig file and a DefaultConfig file.

The Olympus software can be installed using either of the configuration files to ensure that all users will share the same customised settings when they launch the software however, both configuration files are used in different scenarios.

Note: The configuration files only applies to the Olympus software installed in Standalone Mode. If you want a fully centralised management solution then please follow the guide here for ODMSR6 Workgroup Mode this will contain the prerequisites for an ODMSR6 Workgroup mode installation. For ODMS R7 Workgroup installation please follow the guide here.

CustomConfig File

CustomConfig file are only used in ODMS software deployment with an Olympus volume license in Standalone mode.

How to create a CustomConfig file

  • Install the Olympus software.
  • Configure the software settings.
  • Next export the settings by going to the following location depending on which mode the software was installed in.
    • Individual User Mode - C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Olympus\ODMSR6\DMTM\username.xml
    • All User Mode - C:\ProgramData\Olympus\ODMSR*\DMTM
  • Rename the file to CustomConfig.xml
  • Place the CustomConfig on the network share where the ODMS installation files are stored.
  • Deploy the software using your deployment method e.g. Group Policy.
  • The software will now get deployed with the CustomConfig file so any users who access the ODMS software will get the customised settings.

DefaultConfig File

Default Config file can be used in ODMS and Standard software however the Default Config files can't be used for software deployments. They are only used after the software has been installed.

Note: If any users launches the software before the DefaultConfig file is put in place then they will not receive the customised settings as the software has been launched with default settings. Therefore Olympus profile will need to be cleared in order to get the customised settings. Please follow the guide here on clearing the Olympus profile.

How to create a DefaultConfig file

  • Install the Olympus software.
  • Configure the software settings.
  • Next export the settings by going to the following location depending on which software release is installed in.
    • ODMS - C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Olympus\ODMSR*\DMTM\username.xml
    • Standard - C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Local\Olympus\DSSPlayerStandard\username.xml
  • Rename the file to DefaultConfig.xml
  • Place the Default Config files within the following location depending on which software release is installed.
    • ODMS - C:\Program Files (x86)\OLYMPUS\ODMS_R*\DM_TM
    • Standard - C:\Program Files (x86)\OLYMPUS\DSSPlayerStandard
  • Any users who accesses the software on this PC will now get the customised settings.
