Voice Recognition Best Practices

To ensure that Voice Recognition is as accurate and efficient as possible, there are some best practices to follow:

Ensure that the recording environment is quiet and free from unnecessary background noise.Speak clearly and naturally as if you were talking to a person.

Dictate punctuation – this helps the engine understand how you speak and where certain paragraphs are starting and ending.

Carry out more training than the minimum required by Dragon. The better trained the profile is, the more accurate the results will be.Limit the recording to only one speaker – voice recognition engines are not very good at recognizing the voices of multiple speakers.

The first words you say might take a little while to come on screen, this is normal.

Avoid clearing your throat or yawning during dictation.

Speak at a normal pace, dictating too slow or only speaking one word at a time will not produce accurate results.

Perform adaptation regularly – corrections will need to be made more often during the first few uses, but it is important that the profile is adapted so that it can learn from those corrections.

Proof-read documents carefully, it is easy to miss small spelling or grammatical errors caused by the user or the voice recognition engine. If they are not picked up, the engine will continue to make those mistakes until corrected.
