Olympus Device Configuration Manager (DCM)

The Olympus Device Configuration Manager is a purpose-built tool for configuring every aspect of the DirectRec devices. It allows full customisation of all software settings to create a dictation system that is truly personalised. Furthermore, the DCM also assists the user with getting the most out of their Dragon Naturally Speaking software.  Upon installing the DCM, a vast array of Dragon commands will be pre-assigned to the buttons on the DirectRec II, allowing you to use voice recognition immediately and efficiently.

Button Customisation

The DirectRec II features four dedicated programmable buttons, moreover, any button on the device can be configured to perform a number of automated functions including: 

• Opening Applications

• Text Input

• Keyboard shortcuts

• Voice Recognition functions

To customise the buttons on the DirectRec II. Follow the steps below:

• Open the Olympus Device Configuration Manager (DCM)

• Connect the DirectRec II to the PC.

• Select the button that you wish to configure and press the “...” button.

• From this window, you can choose from any number of commands available, such as opening applications, entering text or performing a dragon task. Simply click the “Add” button to enter the command.

• Customise your task and press “Ok”.

• It will now appear in the list, you can perform multiple tasks with one button by adding another task into the sequence. You can also insert delays to ensure that the functions are carried out with more specific timing.

Exporting User Settings 

• Open the DCM and configure your device.

• Once all of the settings have been configured, click on the “Export Template” button.

• Save the file to your PC or onto a network location.

• It will now appear as an .xml file in the location that you specified.

• To import a file, simply click on the “Import Template” button and browse to the location of the .xml file.

Scanning a Barcode

• Open the DCM and connect your DR-2300.

• Configure a button to scan a barcode. By default it is set as the rear trigger button.

• Move into another application and press the button assigned to the scan function.

• The barcode will now be exactly replicated within your application.

Dragon Naturally Speaking  

You can use the DCM to configure the DirectRec II to work alongside the following versions of Dragon Naturally Speaking.

• Dragon Naturally Speaking 8

• Dragon Naturally Speaking 9

• Dragon Naturally Speaking / Medical 10

• Dragon Naturally Speaking 11

Using the DirectRec II and DSS Player Pro Release 5

As the DCM is designed to handle the button operations alongside Voice Recognition and similar applications, it will not allow the device to be used alongside Pro Release 5.  In order to enable compatibility with Pro Release 5, you will need to obtain special firmware. Please contact your dealer to obtain the firmware update. After updating the firmware, the DirectRec configuration tool can be used with the DirectRec II and DSS Player Pro Release 5.

Please note: When the Olympus Device Configuration Manager is opened, the DirectRec Configuration Tool is closed automatically. This is so that no conflicts occur as both applications will try and handle button operations.

As well as configuring the device, the DCM allows you to export the settings as a template so that they can be imported onto any other PC with the DCM installed. This will speed up configuration and make configuring standard settings much faster.
